I've always thought that it takes an odd sort to want to be a top level whistleman. Maybe more odd than I thought.

    I agree with your assessment, though I can't be sure our reasons are necessarily the same. Certainly placing football officiating ahead of one's family--so explicitly, though that may be some artifact of translation--is odd, at least to me. Maybe that's why I'm not world-class at anything...
