In the Land of Hypotheticals

I was just looking at the single table I put together for today's Table Talk, and the thought came skittering across my brain: "What if the regular season ended today?" Sure, sure, some teams have played a different number of games, so the exercise is inherently unfair (unless your name happens to be Tim Weyland or Jair Marrufo or...you get my point), but just play along for a moment, will you? Note that neither MLS Cup finalist would make the playoffs, and only half of last year's playoff participants would be entering the post-season. How would they match up?

EAST
DC United (1) vs. KC Wizards (4)
Toronto FC (2) vs. Chicago Fire (3)

WEST
Chivas USA (1) vs. Houston Dynamo (4)
Seattle Sounders (2) vs. Colorado Rapids (3)

That would guarantee one of DC/KC and one of Seattle/Colorado in the conference finals. How many of you would have had that on your pre-season scorecard? A strange hypothetical universe indeed.
