Suppie is a shorthand reference for players taken in the MLS Supplemental Draft. Sadly, the days of the Suppie are numbered, as the last additions to this vaunted group came in 2008 with the final installment of the Supplemental Draft. With the death of the reserve league and the accompanying roster reductions in 2009, the Supplemental Draft was quietly put down behind the woodshed by the MLS HQ troglodytes.
Still, Suppies will remain active in the league for years to come, and it will be a sad day indeed when the last of their storied number hang up their shin guards. As of this writing (March, 2009), Devon McTavish is the sole remaining Suppie on the DC United roster.
